Our Physicians
Atlanta South Gastroenterology, P.C. is a private practice of gastroenterology (gastrointestinal medicine and liver diseases) with offices in East Point and Riverdale, Georgia, both suburbs of Atlanta. The practice was started in 1984 by David M. Martin, M.D., who was joined by Ralph C. Lyons, M.D. in 1989.
Dr. Martin graduated from Oberlin College in 1973, and from the Emory University
School of Medicine in 1977. He served an internship and residency in Internal Medicine
from 1977-1980 at the Emory University affiliated hospitals, and a fellowship in
Digestive Diseases (Gastroenterology) from 1980-83 at the Emory University affiliated
hospitals. He was the acting Chief of Gastroenterology at the Atlanta VA Medical Center,
and Assistant Professor of Medicine (Digestive Diseases) at the Emory University School
of Medicine from 1983-84. In 1984 he opened his office for the practice of internal
medicine and gastroenterology; the practice is now limited to gastroenterology. Dr.
Martin is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and by the American Board
of Gastroenterology. He is a Fellow in the American College of Physicians and in the
American College of Gastroenterology.
Dr. Lyons graduated from Harvard University in 1978, and from the University of Pennsylvania
School of Medicine in 1982. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine
from 1982-85 at the Emory University affiliated hospitals, served with the Public Health
Service from 1985-87, and completed his specialty training in Digestive Diseases
(Gastroenterology) at the Medical College of Georgia from 1987-89. He joined Dr. Martin's
practice in 1989. Dr. Lyons is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and by
the American Board of Gastroenterology.
